Client : Life Technologies, biotech company with about 9,500 employees and more than 3,600 licenses and patents.
Need : To showcase their commitment to science and understanding of global warming Life Technologies’s Global Citizenship team wanted to align their CSR efforts closely with an employee commitment to reduce their overall carbon footprint.
Strategy & solutions : Create a zero carbon footprint campaign. Partnering with strategists from Saatchi & Saatchi S, the team realized that employees felt overwhelmed by the audacious goal of a zero carbon footprint. This meant developing a creative strategy that started with everyone contributing just one thing, one dot that would build into many. Thus was born the “Do One Thing” campaign.
Employees were asked to make a commitment and to share a picture of themselves. To solved for inconsistencies in the supplied assets images were converted to BW, made into cutouts and integrated brand color overlays.
We created collages of people’s images with their DOT commitments and put them on their computers, in the offices spaces, on the internal platform and all over the organization to affirm the commitment.
In addition, we created a training game with playing cards and a board that gave folks a chance to learn about the life cycle of their products. Once they learned details, they were invited, on the flip side, to brainstorm better ways of doing business.
Design items : Visual identity and communications tools including; dot logo, style guide, posters, laptop skins, toolkit for employees, site tracker, leadership toolkit.
Role : Art Director + Designer
Results : Campaign was so successful that the client asked to develop a sub-campaign for the Earth Day events that took place that spring as seen here.
